X-Men: Apocalypse is Terrible

I wish I could say this was the last bad X-Men movie. But it’s not. In fact, the next movie is the last good movie, and it technically isn’t even an X-Men movie!

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ just feels unnecessary. ‘Days of Future Past’ made for a strong finale. Yet here we are with another film. Which just happened to be one of the messiest, ugliest, and most obnoxious movies in the series.

Apocalypse, the oldest, deadliest Mutant alive, has returned. His goal: world domination. Now it’s up to the X-Men to stop him. But with the students still being so fresh faced, will they be able to stand a chance?

Yeah, this plot is a mess. It’s a garbled mess of nonsensical plotlines and god awful character writing. Everything is half-baked at best and laughable at worst.

In terms of X-Men villains, Apocalypse is the worst one we’ve gotten so far. Dude has no backstory, no personality, and no real motivation. He’s just an ugly looking blue dude who is evil because we need someone for the superheroes to fight.

As for the rest of the cast, we’re right back to having a bloated roster of cardboard cutouts. This movie introduces a young Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Angel, Psylocke, and Nightcrawler. None of them get any proper time to develop. Hell, they had a chance to develop them with the mall scene, and they just… didn’t!

Don’t even get me started on Charles and Magneto. Charles’ whole arc in this movie is just going bald, and Magneto’s arc is just a lazy repeat of what we’ve already gotten in the other movies. These two used to be the heart and soul of the rebooted timeline, and now they’re utterly devoid of life.

But hey. There’s another Quicksilver scene in this movie. I’d be more excited if it was fresh and original, but it’s still the best part of the film. Not that the bar was very high.

As for the Wolverine scene… no. Just… no.

Even worse are the visuals. This was a movie from 2016, but it looks like a CW show from 2010! The special effects are poor, the editing and cinematography are so nonsensical it borders on comedy, and don’t even get me started on the action scenes! This be an ugly ass movie, make no mistake!

And you know what really makes me mad? They ditched the yellow jumpsuits!

For the love of god, don’t watch ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’. It’s a half-baked, pointless waste of time. Honestly, the only other movie you should watch beyond ‘Days of Future Past’ is ‘Logan’. Just pretend that this one doesn’t exist.

You know what’s really horrifying? The X-Men movies after this one are even worse! And yes. I said movies. Plural.

What, did you think ‘Dark Phoenix’ was the last one? Did you really think we were so lucky?!
