Writer’s Diary: March 2024 Update

Ah, springtime. The time for flowers, fresh grass, and rampant allergy problems. What better time could there be to stay inside, reading and writing and playing copious amounts of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth?

Finally, we are done with our Rocky marathon. Now all that remains is to rank them and for my final thoughts on the series. That’ll be out next Monday. Afterwards, I’ll be taking a break from marathons and reviewing some one-off films. Which ones will be a surprise for the both of us.

Book-wise, the plan is more or less the same. I’m about halfway through ‘The Republic of Thieves’ by Scott Lynch and making slow progress on George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Dance with Dragons.’ Until I’m done, expect more Poirot, some Lovecraft, or perhaps even a few shorts from Edgar Allan Poe.

For variety hour, I have a few ideas. I want to talk about why Netflix’s live action attempt at ‘Avatar: the Last Airbender’ didn’t go over well with fans (myself included.) I’ve also got another few shounen anime articles brewing in my mind. Finally, at some point, there will be another proper character analysis.

Game Night is gonna be a lot of Best Boss Battles. I’d love to talk about other things. but I wasn’t joking in the first paragraph. Rebirth has more or less consumed my life. Until my review is ready, expect lots of Hollow Knight boss fight analyses.

But before that, I have a more serious article to write. I’ve got words about the current state of the triple-A games industry. Particularly with the insane number of lay-offs we’ve seen.

Also a Stardew Valley article, since I put some time into that recently and the next update is coming soon.

Now we come to the anime slot. Firstly, Berserk. With Conviction done and over with, it’s time to launch into the Falcon of the Millennium Empire arc! I’m also planning a review of ‘A Sign of Affection,’ so keep an eye out for that.

Finally, let’s talk books. I’m happy to say I finally finished the rough draft for project number two! Here are the final numbers:

  • Words: 198592
  • Pages: 305
  • Chapters: 58 + prologue & epilogue
  • Parts: 5/5

I’ve already got a small laundry list of notes for changes to make during the editing process. Some parts need trimming down, some need expanding upon. It’s going to take quite a bit of time.

Now that it’s done, I’m also ready to unveil the title: Father of Monsters. The plot synopsis, however, will have to wait until later in the editing process. Things are going to change quite a bit from rough draft to edited.

I’m also resuming work on Shadows of Revolution. No major changes here; I’m simply cleaning some things up and implementing some feedback I’ve received thus far. It’s already coming along smoothly; out of 400 pages, 102 are already done. That should be done by Summer, at which point I’ll dedicate 100% of my writing time to FoM.

My hope is to have both of these books out and ready to read by the end of 2025. Them, and perhaps a few novellas I’ve been cooking in my spare time. But let’s not count our chickens before they hatch, eh?

That’s all I’ve got for y’all today. Thanks very much for reading, and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your days! See you later!
