Today, My Hero Academia hits its 100th episode! Question is: did it reach this milestone with a bang?
With the joint training session over, all the kids take some time to cool down. Deku and Bakugo do some joint training under All Might in an attempt to figure out Izuku’s new Quirk, Blackwhip. Some time later, Bakugo and Todoroki finally earn their provisional licenses. But unlike the rest of the class, they need to put them to use almost immediately.
This whole season has been riddled with flashbacks and this episode is one of the worst. You can’t go three minutes without one, I swear to god. They straight-up flashback to a line Monoma says not a single minute after they say it!
Aside from that, the episode is decent. Not absolutely incredible, but it’s got some quality moments that make it worth a watch.
For one, it’s incredibly wholesome. With the match done, we get to see all the class A and B kids hanging out and just being kids together. We get to see Deku, Bakugo, and All Might working together with a super fun trio dynamic. Endeavor texting his son while beating the hell out of a villain with his other hand is absolutely hilarious! We even get Eri and Mirio, the former of which is so adorable that she makes me feel like a proud dad!
I’m not that old, I swear…
We also get plenty of new information on Quirks! Light is shed on both Eri and Monoma’s Quirks, which is very interesting. Granted, I’m a huge nerd, so that might just be me. And this information may or may not actually be important, we still don’t know. So take that point with a grain of salt.
It’s not all slice-of-life goodness, though. The episode is capped off with a quick action scene starring Bakugo, Todoroki, and a decently cool villain with carbonated water powers. It’s not an especially flashy scene; the animation is fine but not incredible and the action is short-lived. Still, a decently fun battle. And we even get some Small Might doing hero shit!
All in all, this was a decent episode. A solid conclusion to a less-than-stellar arc. Not amazing, but not awful.
Happy 100, everyone!
