So this happened.
And to that, I ask: really? Did Lego Batman and Ninjago fail that badly?
I wonder why.
The Lego Movie was a one-hit wonder. It surpassed all expectations, proving to be more than just a big product placement. From the animation to the cast, everything fell perfectly into place to create a movie that proved to be one of the best kids movies of the decade.
But you know what else it was? Lightning in a bottle. Impossible to recreate.
That’s why they had to try again, right?
Lego Batman was okay. It lost some of the luster and charm, but it was still fun. And I’ll be honest, I didn’t even see Lego Ninjago. Somehow, I doubt many others did either.
Don’t get me wrong. If the movie proves to be good, then I’ll be more than happy to shut up and enjoy it. But ask this to yourself: do we need another god damn Lego movie?
It’s like Ghostbusters. It shouldn’t have worked, but it did. Something magical happened and it turned out to be fantastic. The same applies here: it was a one-time success. You can’t recreate it. It’ll just keep getting worse and worse until you either stop or are incapable of making more.
