By the Cover: The Sunlit Man

Been a hot second since we’ve done one of these. But I did promise, if you’ll recall.

Minor spoilers ahead. Obviously.

Still can’t get over how cool this looks.

The color pallet is simple and striking. Dark red, orange, and yellow; a fitting pallet for a world such as this one. The black silhouettes of everything in the foreground are made all the more striking for it.

Standing front and center is our leading man, Nomad. Dude strikes one hell of a figure, with his flowing coat and Aux in hand. He’s even holding the spoiler up to his heart. His dark color scheme contrasts brilliantly with the sun behind him.

Get it? Because of the title? Yeah, you get it.

Floating all around him are the flying denizens of the world’s inhabitants. I love how every one of them is a different size and shape. It’s a nice touch, seeing as these structures are all capable of attaching or detaching. It gives you a nice glimpse at the setting as well as establishing this as a sci-fi heavy book.

There’s more on the back cover, too. Though it’s more or less a different take on the same aesthetic. Just replace Nomad with one of the book’s other characters and frame her with the arms of two others standing just off-frame. It’s a good image; it creates a decent amount of intrigue for new readers. Are these characters friends or foes of the man on the front?

And that’s about it. This is a very simple and cool cover. Effective, too; it manages to look awesome and entice potential readers by using as little as possible. Fantastic stuff.

It also makes for an awesome hardcover. Flex flex.
