Writer’s Diary: November 2023 Update

Farewell, scares and skeletons. Hello… turkey. No matter how many years pass, that trade will never stop being disappointing.

October was a month of healing for me. Certain events in August and September did serious damage to my mental health. Depression has always been an issue for me, but it got real bad back there. But I’m on the mend now. Step by step, I aim to be better every day.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to say the same about the blog. Speaking of which, here’s the plan for this month!

Grab a fez and be ready to run, because this month is the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who! Which means I’ll be going full fan-boy mode all November! But I won’t be reviewing episodes, no no no. Instead, I’ll be compiling a list of must-watch episodes from both the classic and modern series to prepare new and old viewers alike for the big event! From William Hartnell all the way to Jodie Whitaker, I’m leaving no stone unturned!

Best of the Bestiary is over, at least for the time being. I have no plans to replace it, so the Tuesday slot will remain empty for a time. At least for this month. Eventually the series will return with another 5e manual or it will simply remain empty. We’ll see what happens.

For books, I’m reading my way through a few. Dune Messiah and Metro 2034 are currently at the top of my to-read list. As I work my way through them, you can expect some By the Cover articles and perhaps some Poirot.

Now for characters. I’ll be giving my isekai protagonist rankings a break for the time being. But that style of article is super fun for me to write, so I’ll be applying it to a different kind of protagonist. Shounen anime heroes! Goku, Luffy, Naruto, Asta, and more! Hopefully it’ll be just as enjoyable to read as they are to write!

If you know me, you can probably guess what games I’ll be reviewing this month. Or at least one. My review of Spider-Man 2 (PS5) will be out this week. After that, I’ll be ranting about Slay the Spire and Baldur’s Gate 1: Enhanced Edition. After that… I dunno, maybe I’ll make a rant about game preservation.

As the new season is still running, the anime slot is gonna be pretty quiet for a bit. Expect more Berserk to fill in the gap. Although I do still need to talk about the new Dragon Ball series and the anime version of One Piece’s Wano arc, so expect that as well.

I’m still on break from working on my main novel project. But I haven’t been idle! I’ve finished the rough draft for a much smaller novella, and I’ve started work editing an older project I’ve had on the shelf for a while now. Come December, I’ll be ready to go back and wrap up the big project.

The last few months have been pretty up and down. But I’m still alive, so there’s still time to turn it around. Even if only a little bit, I’ll be better now than I was before. And I’ll keep on going like that every day, one day at a time.

Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful rest of your day!
