Wyvern: Not-Dragon

Lore: Bird of Prey Ultimate Edition

A cousin to the mighty dragons, wyverns are deadly skyward hunters. They’re relentless and cunning, only ever retreating from a hunt if it sustains potentially deadly injury. It can even be tamed, making for a deadly mount indeed.

And… yeah, that’s it. No, I’m not messing with you. That’s all we’ve got to work with.

I trust I don’t need to explain who disappointing this is.

Design: No Feathers? Bipedal? This is a Man.

What was the rule again? If it has two legs it’s a wyvern, if it has four it’s a dragon? Was that it?

Top ten animals I would not want to see the shadow of.

This is a solid look. I mean, it’s a dragon. Two legs, four, who cares? It just looks cool simply because it is what it is!

With that said: it’s probably the weakest of the dragons. If the others were typed like Pokémon, then this would be a normal type. Simple. Bland. Boring. Like white bread.

Speaking of Pokémon…

Stats: Normal Type Dragon

You call this thing a dragon?! It can’t even breath fire! Or lighting. Or acid. Or anything!

Killing it is fairly straight-forward. It’s AC is low enough that hitting it isn’t a problem. Though its higher HP makes up for that a bit. The only real challenge in fighting is in its ability to fly.

Beyond that, it’s an incredibly simple slugfest. It can bite you, rake you with its claws, or stab you with its stinger, which can do extra poison damage. There’s really nothing else to it. It hits you and you hit it until one party drops dead.

Placement

This one is honestly really dull. The lore is just about non-existent. The design is alright, if a bit bland and boring. The stats make for an exceptionally simple fight. This is the D&D equivalent of eating an untoasted slice of white bread.

With all that in mind, the Wyvern is going to #175 on the Best of the Bestiary!
