Thursday (In Case You Didn’t Read the Title)
Television. One of the world’s favorite pass times, as well as one of my own. They make for an excellent time killer, especially since many have years worth of staying power. Though those tend to also suffer from gradual declines in quality.
But that’s a topic for another day.
In most ways, TV Thursday will function the same as the other series on the blog. I pick a show, judge it based on my personal criteria, and tell you whether or not I personally recommend it. However, there is one necessary change I must make. See, watching a TV show a season at a time is a much greater time commitment than keeping up with anime by episode or watching a single movie. I’m a busy guy, and I don’t have that kind of time.
Luckily, I came to an easy compromise. Instead of binge watching a whole season of TV in a day or so, I’ll be cutting that watch time down to three or four episodes per post. I’ll judge those three episodes by the usual criteria (cinematography, acting, pacing, story, etc.), as well as a brand new one: grip.
How well does the show keep me interested? At what episode does that interest peak or wane? Is the show building up to something in a way that creates intrigue and keeps me entertained over the course of the season? Is the payoff at the end worth it?
The only exception are shows that are very short. If the episodes are short in length and low in number, I’ll try to watch the whole series as quickly as I can. If I manage that, I’ll judge the season/series as a whole in one singular post.
Once I’ve finished a season, I’ll put the show down and watch another season of another show. I don’t have a set rule for when I’ll return to that show, should I have the desire to do so. It’ll simply come back when it does. If I really liked it, it’ll be back sooner. If it just barely scraped by, then maybe it’ll take a while. It all depends on me, really.
And I’m the most unpredictable motherfucker I’ve ever met, so I’ll just apologize in advance for that.
So sit back, relax and prepare for another unhealthy amount of TV binge watching. It’s time for TV Thursday!
