Holy hell does this episode go places!
In this episode, Mob and Reigen tackle their biggest job yet: exorcising the evil spirit from within a rich man’s daughter. The job is so big in fact, that he’s hired numerous other psychics, including our new friend from episode two who’s name I’m blanking on completely. However, things escalate further than ever before, and Mob is forced to make a dangerous play. As things rapidly fall out of control, Mob’s battle with this extremely powerful evil spirit may change him forever. Possibly for the worse.
But that’ll have to wait until the next episode. This one leaves off on a cliffhanger, and an extremely effective one at that! Good god, I don’t know if I can wait a whole week for the conclusion!
This is easily one of the creepiest episodes in the entire series. For the first time, it truly feels like Mob and everyone around him is in terrible danger. Danger that Mob may not be able to handle. Combined with the excellent visuals, and this one feels like a genuine horror story.
Yeah. This horror episode of a very non-horror anime is more frightening than basically every blockbuster horror movie made in the last twenty years.
So the story’s got me by the balls. How are the visuals? Well, they’re easily some of the most creative and well done in the entire series! Around halfway through the episode, there’s an incredibly fun montage of the different psychics attempting to exorcise the demon. The whole thing plays out like animated manga panels. In fact, I’m willing to bet that they’re legit ripped straight from the manga. It’s incredibly visually interesting and I love it!
We also get some really fun and well animated fighting. Sure, it’s short and doesn’t go anywhere, but it’s well choreographed and super fun to watch!
If we’re avoiding spoilers (which we are), then that’s about all there is to talk about in this episode. It’s creepy, super engaging from start to end, and it leaves you on a super enticing cliff hanger. Good fucking God, I’m so excited for next week!
I know I’ve already said this in basically every episode review, but this time I mean it for real: this may be the best episode of the entire show thus far. And, judging from the preview, the next episode may be even better still!
Even though my boy Mob is probably going to go through some really rough shit…
