Original Release: June 23rd, 2018
Developers often spend years pouring their hearts and souls into their games. In a good game, every little detail is carefully crafted and placed to increase the quality of your experience. Truly good game developers focus on those details, crafting a world that seems genuinely alive due to the smallest little details being filled in.
So it’s only natural that players would want to smudge those details into a funny looking face, right?
Enter mods. These are some of the most fun you can have with a game. With them, you can fix up little issues that the developers missed, or completely throw everything off the rails.
Take Dark Souls on PC, for example. Before the Remaster came out, Dark Souls on PC was… pretty bad. The controls were poor, and the game ran just as well. On top of that, you couldn’t optimize the settings at all. This is all due to the fact that the Dark Souls team had never developed a game on PC before.
Enter DSfix. It’s a simple mod that allowed you to enter the games code and optimize things to run better. And it came out really close to the release of the PC version, so if you still have the original Prepare to Die on PC and you don’t want to buy the Remaster, I recommend you download it.
Then there are the really fun mods. Y’know the ones: turning the dragons in Skyrim to MLP characters or Randy Savage, or giving your character a Keyblade or the Dragonslayer from Berserk. How about adding every single monster from Doctor Who into your Minecraft world? Or playing a game of Civilization 5 on a recreation of Middle-Earth? Wanna turn your Fallout survivor into One Punch Man? You can do all of that and more.
The best games are the ones that promote mods. Games like Skyrim, Stardew Valley, and now Final Fantasy 15 on PC (apparently) that have developers that promote modding are practically destined for success. After all, players are more likely to find themselves attached to a game that they worked on changing.
Even if that change is making SSGSS Vegeta look like Waluigi in DB Fighterz.
