Original Release: June 17th, 2018
Because Arksystem Works are my new gods of fighting games, they’ve made yet another game that just screams for me to love: a cross over game featuring three of their other fighting game properties (Blazblue, Undernight and Persona 4 Arena) plus RWBY (because y’know, why not?)
But that begs the question: is that too ridiculous?
Not really.
Guys, you forget: Smash Bros exists. A game featuring Nintendo, Konami, Capcom, Sega and Atari characters. If that isn’t ridiculous and stupid, I don’t know what is. But you know what else it is?
Fun.
Why do you think the first Avengers movie was a success? It wasn’t because the story was amazing or the action was super cool. It ran on the novelty that all the characters we’d met up to that point were coming together for one big movie. It ran off of childlike wonder and fun. End of story.
Think about it. Is having Ruby Rose slicing up Yu Narukami from Persona 4 while Ragna the Bloodedge sits on the sideline waiting to step in stupid? Yes. Is it fun? Oh undeniably! It’s just the right level of stupid that it brings a smile to my face.
If you can’t get behind that, then I’m sorry you don’t know how to have fun.
Besides, there have been far dumber cross-overs. Remember Sonic All Stars Racing? A racing game featuring Sega characters, Wreck it Ralph (like the actual character from the movie, yes) and TF2 characters. Y’know, characters with no relation to each other whatsoever, whereas Blazblue has the link of their developer.
My point is, it’s okay for a cross-over to be stupid. In fact, the stupid ones are the most fun. So just lay back, relax and have fun.
Y’know, as much as you can while getting your ass kicked at Blazblue. It’s still a fighting game, after all.
