Original Release: June 14th, 2018
Well, E3 season is over. It’s sad to see it go, but I’d say we got enough to leave us satisfied. At least I did.
It’s just a shame we didn’t get Metroid Prime 4.
Okay okay, I’ll stop with that.
Seriously though, I’m left drained of ideas after all that. So instead of writing something creative and original, I’m just gonna give one last look back at this years conferences.
First, we have EA. They… were certainly there. That’s nice, I guess.
They get a D-.
Then we had Microsoft, which was… okay. A new Cuphead expansion and a new Halo game are both pretty good, plus Jump Force, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a new Battletoads game (please be good) and others. It was reasonably solid.
Microsoft gets a B+.
Next there was Bethesda, who probably did the best. A new Doom game, Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls 6 and a new IP are all pretty rad. There was some other stuff too, but honestly they were the low point of the conference.
I’d give them an A-.
Up next was Square Enix. Question: why did they even have one? Microsoft already did Kingdom Hearts, then Sony did the same, so why were they even here? They didn’t reveal anything new, really. Just more stuff on things we already knew about. And those things weren’t Final Fantasy 7 HD.
Square gets a D-. Sorry boys, but that was pretty sad.
Ubisoft was next, and they were… okay. We got some details on games they announced last year, that new Assassin’s Creed game, and even a Starfox crossover for their new toy game! Plus, that expansion for Mario and Rabbids looks pretty fun.
They get a B.
After Ubisoft was the big one (one of them at least): Sony. While their conference was weird and oddly paced, they did show us some pretty cool looking gameplay for Ghosts of Tsushima, Spider-Man, The Last of Us 2, and the announcement of Nioh 2 among other things. Pretty solid, but not fantastic. Still had me smiling though.
They get a B+.
Finally, we get the one I’d been waiting for: Nintendo. Which… I’ll be real, they were average. Smash Bros Ultimate looks fantastic, that I won’t deny. Plus, Dragon Ball Fighterz and a ton of cool looking indie games were announced for Switch, which means my roster of games is gonna blow up by the end of this year. Unfortunately, they didn’t really announce too many new things.
Nintendo gets a C+. I’d give them a B+ for Smash Bros, but I’ve already sucked that game’s dick enough. And it hasn’t even come out yet.
Put ’em all together, and what do we get? A big old B+, that’s what. It was a pretty good E3, but there were plenty of things that I wish we saw. Not that I can complain. It’s about what we got, not what we could’ve got.
I’m really trying not to be salty about no Metroid. Not at all.
