Writer’s Diary: July 2024 Update

Good ol’ July. Blistering heat, buckets of sweat, and mosquitoes enough to wage a war. Can you think of a better time of the year?

Me, I can’t stand the heat. I’ll be staying inside, writing and reading and playing games. All of which I’ll be talking about with you guys.

Let’s not waste any more time and get right into it. Here’s the plan for July.

Our Gamera marathon continues. This month, I’ll be reviewing ‘Gamera VS Jiger‘, ‘Gamera VS Zigra‘, and ‘Gamera: Super Monster.’ With them, we will be concluding the show era. Then we can move on to the heisei trilogy in August.

I’ve listened to a fair number of audio books throughout the month. Firstly, we’ll be covering one more Firefly book, ‘Generations‘. Afterwards, I’ll be discussing ‘Malice‘ by John Gwynne. I’ve loved the other works from him I’ve read, and I can’t wait to talk about this one. Then, ‘A Wizard of Earthsea‘ by Ursula K. Le Guin. I know literally nothing about it, so I’m excited to listen to it and talk about it.

Variety hour is going to be put on pause for the time being. I don’t have any ideas for it, and the few that come to mind don’t really excite me. I’ll spend the time brainstorming for next month and applying extra polish to my other articles.

At this rate, I’m gonna have to drop the ‘daily‘ part of my title.

Thursday will focus primarily on ‘Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.’ The DLC has left me with a ton to talk about, and I’m excited to get into it! Two boss fights, in particular. Beyond that, I’ve recently started playing ‘Blasphemous‘; if I finish it within the month, you can expect a review.

With a new season of anime on the horizon, you can be sure I’ll check in and see what’s on. After that, expect more Berserk manga reviews. We’re getting into my favorite part of the ‘Falcon of the Millenium Empire‘ arc; I’ve been looking forward to talking about this part since I first started this project! Once we reach the halfway point of the arc, I’ll take a short break to catch up on other anime for August.

Finally, an update on ‘Father of Monsters.” Editing for part one is done, and I’m well into part two. Most of what I’m doing now is trimming down fat, bringing the true meat of the story back to the forefront. So far, so good!

As for the cover, I have an artist in mind. Now I just need to draw a sketch that I’m actually happy with. A greater challenge than I had anticipated. Hopefully, I’ll have something cool to show you guys soon enough.

I’ve also been making steady progress on my other book, ‘Shadows of Revolution.’ While FoM is my top priority, SoR makes for a great change of pace when exhaustion claims me. Of the 300+ pages of that beast, 135 of them are done. If things go as I hope, both books will be ready to go at some point in 2025.

With that, we’re finished here for the day. I’m looking forward to this month. I hope you guys are, too!

Thanks a bunch for reading, and have a great rest of your day!
