Writer’s Diary: June 2024 Update

As Spring moves into Summer, now seems the perfect time to stay inside where it’s nice and cool. What, did you think I was going outside? I live with 100% humidity and 90 degree temperatures, dude! The air would boil me alive!

Nah. Better to focus on the blog. Speaking of: here’s what I’ll be cooking this month.

After taking a brief break to talk about ‘Dune: Part 2‘, we return once more to our Gamera movie marathon. This month, we’ll cover ‘Gamera VS Gyaos‘, ‘Gamera VS Viras‘, and ‘Gamera VS Guiron‘. Lots of VS movies. Hopefully that means we’re in for a ton of silly kaiju fun!

For books, I don’t have many exciting things planned. Next up, I’ll be reviewing ‘The Curious Case of Charles Dexter Ward’ by H.P. Lovecraft. Beyond that, I’m still working my way through thicker books like ‘A Dance with Dragons’, so it may be a bit of a wait for the next proper review. Until then, expect more Poirot and Lovecraft shorts.

Variety hour is going to be a mix of fun and positivity. I have another anime fight scene article planned, as well as an article talking about the dead art of game manuals. I’m also going to write a more wholesome article to balance out my constant winging about the current state of video games, so I’ll be telling some nostalgic stories about my childhood memories of the original Xbox.

This month for game night, we’re going all-in on Elden Ring leading up to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC! Expect more boss fight articles, as well as a proper full review of the game! In the two years it’s been out, I’ve never technically done that, so I’m looking forward to finally jotting down my thoughts on this incredible game!

Finally, anime. Don’t expect much of that. The new season starts next month, and all the shows I’m keeping up with are still running. Still, we’re getting into some of my favorite Berserk material in my manga review, so that’ll be fun!

To wrap things up, a quick update on Father of Monsters. Editing has been slow-going so far, but it has been going. By the time this article goes up, I will be finished with part one of the book.

The latter parts of the book are going to need much more dramatic changes and rewrites. Luckily, I get a thirty minute break every day at work. I spend this time drafting the updated versions of chapters and scenes, and I’ve gotten four done well in advance thanks to it. This should help speed things up at least a little bit.

I’m also going to start drafting up the book’s cover this month. I won’t be drawing it myself; I am not an artist and I don’t have the time nor will to start practicing. I’m mostly just doing rough sketches, trying to figure out what I want. Once I’ve got that figured out, I’ll be beginning work for a suitable artist. I’ll keep y’all posted on that as it progresses.

Maybe I’ll even share some of my sketches here for fun. We’ll see.
