It’s that time of the year again. Trees and flowers are blooming. The winter chill has faded. It’s the perfect time to go outside, enjoy a walk, and appreciate the beauty of the world.
Or you could stay inside and watch anime all day like a normal person.
We have no shortage of shows to choose from this time around. And only a few of them are isekai! We’ve got anime originals, long awaited adaptations, and of course: sequels. Like, a lot of sequels.
Such as:
Sequels:

- Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc (Only eight episodes? Really?)
- That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime 3 (I gotta catch up…)
- Mushoku Tensei II Part 2 (Let’s fucking gooooo!!)
- My Hero Academia Season 7 (Can this show please just end? For it’s own good.)
- The Misfit of Demon King Academy II Part 2 (Didn’t even know there was a part 1.)
- Laid-Back Camp Season 3 (Cozy times are back!)
- Black Butler: Public School Arc (I was into this series back in high school. Maybe I should catch up…)
- Sound! Euphonium 3 (Haven’t seen the first two, but I’m friends with some high school band geeks, so maybe I’ll get a kick out of it.)
- The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 3 (This series seems neat, but I haven’t seen it yet.)
Hoo boy! I swear that list gets longer every single season. How many shows don’t get sequels these days?
But I’m getting distracted. Now, onto the main event. Here are the shows I’m keeping an eye on this Spring!
KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3

We are so back!!
The first two seasons of KonoSuba are genuinely some of the greatest works of comedy anime ever made. Highly expressive characters brimming with personality, perfectly timed over-the-top gags, legitimately impressive animation and music, they had it all! That’s not even mentioning the movie or the Megumin prequel! This series just does not miss!
Unless you’re Darkness. But don’t tell her that. Not unless you can deal with the consequences.
Luckily for us, season three has thus far continued that hot streak. The production value hasn’t dropped a bit. It’s still gorgeous, it’s still hilarious, and it’s still the best isekai show airing this season. And we’ve got more Mushoku Tensei! That’s a high bar!
Thank god we’ve got our four favorite morons back. I’ve been needing a good laugh recently. For that alone, this is my number one show this season.
*Quick tangent: I legitimately cannot believe that both the first two episodes leaked in back-to-back weeks. I seriously thought the show had started early, with how quickly it took up my socials. Oddly enough, though, that feels very in character for this series.
Kaiju No. 8

I’ve actually been curious about this one for a while. I read the first few chapters of the manga a few years back. I liked it, but I got distracted reading other things and never got back to it. This will make a good excuse to try again.
Kaiju have been laying waste to Japan for many years. It’s up to the military Defense Corps to eliminate these threats, and for the sweepers of the Professional Kaiju Cleaner Corporation to clean up the waste. Our protagonist, a sweeper named Kafka Hibino, yearns to give up boring clean-up work and join the Defense Corps, but he’s long since given up that dream. When a parasite kaiju turns him into a man-monster hybrid, however, Hibino has one last chance to make his dream come true.
Or to be horribly executed for being a monster. You can’t be a new-age Shounen hero without a guillotine hanging over your neck.
Our leading man is a loser in his thirties still chasing a childish dream. Finally. I’ve been seen.
This is a really cool premise for a shounen show! It’s basically Jujutsu Kaisen, but with Godzilla monsters! Plus, we’ve got Production I.G at the helm, the studio behind Haikyuu!! and Psycho-Pass. Perhaps it might even stand a chance against the monstrous competition that is Demon Slayer and My Hero!
Say what you will about those shows, but they rake in viewers by the truckload.
Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf

Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of varying things about the Spice and Wolf series. I don’t know much beyond the fact that it’s a well-loved story that can’t seem to get the anime adaptation fans think it deserves. But I’ve never actually watched any of them to see what the fuss is all about.
Perhaps it’s finally time I fixed that.
As humans have become more self-sufficient, the wolf deity Holo has found herself with very little to do. When Kraft, a traveling merchant, appears in her village, she asks him to take her to her northern home, Yoitsu, in exchange for her help in business. He agrees, and the two travel the countryside together.
I like this premise a lot! It makes for a solid fantasy adventure story; no demon lords, no magic swords, just a traveling merchant and a wolf goddess. I’m curious to see where the series goes.
The dynamic between our two leads is a lot of fun. Which is good, since they’re the beating heart of the story. The grounded Kraft bounces off of the carefree and childish Holo exceedingly well. I can’t wait to how their relationship develops.
Now, I have heard some complaints about the art style. Being a newcomer to the franchise, I don’t really have a leg to stand on in this discussion. But for me, I think this show looks pretty good! If that’s sacrilegious or something, feel free to let me know. In any case, I intend to keep a close eye on this show as the season continues.
Girls Band Cry

Well, this show certainly took me by surprise.
The story itself is pretty simple. A bunch of cute anime girls try to form a band while struggling with the hardships of living on their own in Tokyo. It’s your classic ‘chase your dreams no matter the odds’ kind of story. One that puts a strong highlight on how difficult it is to live as a young adult having to balance their dreams with their rent.
Why, then, is this show worth keeping an eye on? Simple. The animation.
This entire series uses CGI animation. Really, really good CGI. The character motions are fluid and energetic, and their faces every bit as expressive as a 2D character. I was legitimately blown away by how impressive it looked when I first caught sight of it! It’s some of the best animation we’re getting this entire season!
Besides that, you get to watch a 3D anime girl flipping people the bird. What more could you want?
Conclusion
Those are the shows I’m watching this season. Not many, I’ll admit. But I’m an adult living in the United States in 2024, and I sure as shit wasn’t born rich. Otherwise, I’d be watching every single one.
How about you guys? Are you watching something great that I’ve missed? Feel free to let me know! Who knows? I might even find room in my schedule for it.
Not that I’d bet on that. But who needs sleep when you’ve got anime?
