Have you ever wanted to see Godzilla fight a giant plant? No? How about if the plant looked like this?
Then, at the end of the movie, he enters his final form:
Have I convinced you yet?
This movie is… odd. Not only because the main villain is Godzilla DNA spliced with plants (because apparantley the human race thought it would be a good idea to put that guy’s DNA near ANYTHING), but because of the human plot, which features human terrorists, ‘anti-nuclear bacteria’ and scientific espionage. No I’m not kidding.
Is it fun? Yes. Does it make sense? Not really.
Not gonna lie though, I really like Biollante. His design is rad as shit, and him being a plant monster is something we’ve never seen before in the series. He feels like a genuine threat to Godzilla (who is now and will remain a threat to humanity, and never become the hero like in the Showa era) and to humanity in general.
Overall, a solid but skippable movie. It’s not bad, but it’s not really… great. You should definitely check it out if you like Godzilla. If not though, you can skip this one.
But don’t worry. The next one has my two favorite things: golden dragons…
and time travel.
