Okay. Let’s have a serious talk. This is super for real.
Seriously, what the hell are they even doing? I’ve never seen a company more eager to piss in their own eyes after shooting themselves in the foot and hanging themselves from a tree. I’ve seen self-destruct buttons do less damage to their own image! How do you screw yourselves over that badly so consistently?
For those of you not in the know (I envy you lucky bastards) Konami is the gaming company behind Metal Gear Solid, Bomberman and Castlevania, among other things. Back in the days of the NES and SNES, they were among the top gaming companies of the world.
Now, they’re known as the EA of the East.
Now, instead of making actual games of high quality, they make fan-service filled pachinko and slot machines, cheap cash grabs like Metal Gear Survive and Super Bomberman R, and fire their most talented game creators, like Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear franchise. Which, for those of you who don’t understand, is tantamount to Nintendo ostracizing the Mario brand and declaring that they’ll never include the lovable plumber in a game ever again.
Or, in terms everyone can understand, brand suicide.
They mistreat their employees, their fans, and their IPs. Yet somehow, they’re still afloat. Granted, the Titanic was still afloat moments after the iceberg crashed into it, but they haven’t sunk yet, which is infuriating to say the least.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want the company to sink purely out of spite. People should have jobs, even if the jobs are shit. But the company needs to start paying attention and put some actual effort into their games. Another Metal Gear Survive will bury the company for good. That is a fact.
Unless they start making genuinely fantastic games, they shouldn’t be supported. So don’t buy Metal Gear Survive, don’t buy Bomberman R, don’t buy anything with the word Konami slapped on the side. Not until they deserve it.
*Sigh* I guess it’s back to waiting for Death Stranding to come out.
Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day.
