Day 176: 9/6/18 Nintendo Direct Predictions

Who the fuck saw this coming?

If you’ve been on this blog before, you’ll know that I love me some Nintendo. From Mario to Animal Crossing, I’ve dabbled in every game in every franchise this company has sent out. Is that an exaggeration? Maybe. But my point still stands: my boner for these games is as solid as steel.

So of course I’m gonna milk this Direct for two days worth of content!

Today, I’m going to take a stab at five things I think this Direct will have. Five games that we’ve seen before that will get more details. Why not make predictions for new games, you ask? Because I don’t feel like it, that’s why.

I’ll also stick only to Switch games, as those are the ones that I (and most other people) actually care about. Now, with all that out of the way, let’s launch into the most obvious one.

1. Smash Bros.

I don’t think they’ll spend too much time on Smash. We did get that Smash dedicated Direct a little while ago, after all. But remember: they teased a new mode that they couldn’t reveal then. Well, now might be that time. We’ll probably get that new mode, some details on it, and then move on.

2. Metroid Prime 4

This isn’t just me being a mouth-watering Metroid fanboy (although that is certainly part of it). It has been well over a year since the original announcement: at the very least, we should be getting a teaser trailer and a release window.

Boy, I can’t wait to be disappointed again.

3. Yoshi

Remember that they announced a new Yoshi game shortly after they announced Prime 4? Yeah, most people don’t. But it does look super cute and fun and, much like Prime, we haven’t gotten any details or any more gameplay since E3 2017. Maybe it’s about time, eh Nintendo?

Please? I love Yoshi, please show us more, it looked great!

4. Generation 8 AKA Pokemon for Switch

Nintendo and the Pokemon Company have confirmed that the upcoming Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee are not the brand new high-power Pokemon games promised a few E3s ago. They have also confirmed that the new one will be an all-new generation, which means brand new Pokemon.

Again.

I think that, at the very least, we’ll get a title and the legendary Pokemon designs. Maybe we’ll get a little gameplay (if we’re super fucking lucky) but I highly doubt that. Still, I do think that we’ll get something.

And finally…

5. Bayonetta 3

Now that Bayonetta is a Nintendo exclusive franchise (suck it everyone else), it only makes sense that we’d get more Bayonetta 3 news during a Direct. And since it’s been a fair bit since the first two got ported to Switch and the third was announced, now would be a good time for some more news.

Now yes, that Bayonetta announcement wasn’t that long ago. Everything else was announced over a year ago, while this one only happened a few months ago. But consider this: Bayonetta has quickly become one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, especially since she won a spot in Smash Bros. by popular demand alone.

Kind of like Waluigi, only more successful.

I think we’ll either get a brief teaser and release window towards the end of the Direct, or we’ll get a straight up gameplay trailer. Maybe an actual date, if we’re super lucky, though I doubt that one.

And that’s it. That’s what I’d like to see tomorrow. We’ll certainly get more, but those are the five that I’d be super excited about. Will I be wrong? Knowing my luck, probably. But it can’t hurt to speculate.

But please. Nintendo. If you’re going to give us anything…

JUST GIVE US PRIME 4 PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!

  1. I personally desperately want an Animal Crossing fix on Switch, so I guess I can dream, right? I’d also really like to see the last final Wii U games I really wanted to port over to Switch so I can play them, and those would be Yoshi’s Woolly World and Super Mario Maker.
